Igor Eronko: Lightning’s 2012 first round pick Andrei Vasilevski will leave Salavat of the KHL for the Lightning.

Ansar Khan of MLive: Red Wings needs this offseason:
1. A top-four right handed defenseman – options include: Matt Niskanen, Dan Boyle, Derek Morris, Tom Gilbert and Marek Zidlicky.

2. A decent-sized scoring winger - Thomas Vanek, Matt Moulson, Ryan Callahan, Marian Gaborik, Jarome Iginla, Jaromir Jagr and Devin Setoguchi.

The Wings will have about $20 million in cap space, but have to take care of RFAs Danny DeKeyser, Tomas Tatar and Riley Sheahan.

They will not use an amnesty buyout on Johan Franzen. If they Wings want to get rid of Franzen, they’ll have to trade him. He has a cap hit of $3.95 million, with six-years remaining and $17.5 million.

It is doubtful that David Legwand will be back.

If Daniel Alfredsson wants to play another year, it’s likely the Wings could work out a deal with him.

Kyle Quincy will probably not be re-signed, though it is possible.

The Wings would like to re-sign Jonas Gustavsson, but may worry about his injury issues. Other free-agent options include: Brian Eliott, Jaroslav Halak, Jonas Hiller, Al Montoya, Chad Johnson and Carter Hutton. The Wings plan to keep Petr Mrazek in the AHL for one more year.

Wings trade candidates include: Joakim Andersson and Jakub Kindl.

Hope Smoke: Darren Dreger: ”I’m sure that St.Louis will show interest in keeping Miller” … ”As a pending UFA Miller will look at what is available on the market. All along I’ve been told Miller wants a short term 3-5 years” … ”Miller has ambition beyond hockey and he’s looking at getting on with things once he’s done with the game”
Hope Smoke: Ray Ferraro: ”The Blues would be able to move some of their forwards, a more complete guy, for someone who scores. Someone like Berglund” … ”What would Berglund look like down the middle playing behind Nugent-Hopkins?” … Hope Smoke: Ferraro suggested Jordan Eberle going to the Oilers. Ferraro wonders if the you consider one of the Blues defenseman like Kevin Shattenkirk and Patrik Berglund for Eberle and someone else?

Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington: Gormley lists some GM candidates for the Capitals: Tim Burke (director of scouting for the Sharks), Jim Benning (assistant GM for the Bruins), Ron Hextall (assistant GM for the Flyers), Claude Loiselle (assistant GM for the Maple Leafs), Paul Fenton (assistant GM for the Predators), Bob Nicholson (former president and CEO of Hockey Canada), Craig Billington (VP of player development for the Avalanche), Mike Gillis (former GM of the Canucks), Dave Poulin (VP of hockey operations for the Maple Leafs) and Julien BriseBois (assistant GM of the Lightning).

Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Gordon thinks the Blues should hand the crease over to Jake Allen, re-sign Brian Elliott to be the backup and let Miller walk. Re-sign Steve Ott but not for a lot of money or term. Give Ken Hitchcock at least one more year. If Patrik Berglund is willing to re-sign for moderate third line money, then they should consider it. If Berglund is looking for bigger money, they should look at trading him. The Blues don’t need to get into a free agent bidding war for Paul Stastny. Magnus Paajarvi, Dmitrij Jaskin and Ty Rattie should get opportunities to make the team next year.

Ryan Callahan – the Lightning and Callahan are expected to talk soon, and they are expected to make a push to re-sign him. 2. The young guys - Richard Panik, Alex Killorn, Andrej Sustr, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, J.T. Brown and Brett Connolly are restricted free agents. 3. The New York Rangers – if the Rangers make the Eastern Conference finals, the Lightning will receive the Rangers 1st round pick this year and not their 2nd round pick. The Lightning also received the Rangers 2015 1st round pick in the Callahan-St. Louis trade. 4. Adding defensive help – the Lightning need to improve their blueline. They have been linked in the past to Canucks Alex Edler and Coyotes Keith Yandle. 5. Andrey Vasilevskiy – Vasilevskiy’s KHL deal expires on Wednesday and they want to get him signed and bring over to North America before the start of next season.

Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports: Hurricanes Anton Khudobin thinks that Cam Ward’s time with the Hurricanes could be over.
“Of course he is a strong goaltender. He is a good goaltender. No one is counting him out. They [Carolina] will decide what to do with him this year, this summer. Maybe he, how can I say, has presented everything he could have,” said Khudobin at a Russian National Team press conference on Monday.
“Maybe at this club. Maybe in his career. He has been playing in the NHL since he was 19,” said Khudobin.

But back issues, a knee injury and then a groin problem this season have limited his appearances, hindered his effectiveness and led to questions about his durability at age 30.

Ward played in 30 games this season, his fewest in a full NHL season since 2005-2006. He had a 10-12-6 record, with a 3.06 goals-against average and .898 save percentage, as Anton Khudobin emerged as the Canes’ No. 1 goaltender.

“I struggled to get comfortable all season long,” Ward said Tuesday. “Obviously I got the injury, and coming back from that I felt like I was playing catchup. I wasn’t able to get consecutive games to try and get my game going. Anton had a great season. I was never able to get into a rhythm.”

Before the NHL trade deadline, speculation began that Ward might be available, given Khudobin’s good play, or that the Canes could wait and deal him in the offseason.

“Obviously it’s not something that you want to hear,” Ward said. “My family and I consider this our home and have for nine years and I definitely want to be a Hurricane moving forward. To hear those rumors is difficult but you don’t want to make too much of it because I wasn’t told anything.

“I do believe I’ll overcome this and get my game back to where it used to be. I hope that’s here in Carolina.”
